Kim Barrett
was the
"K-MAIL" predicted star of the day as she
easily won the weight throw
competition with a throw of
73-03!
Kim's throw places her 2nd on the
Florida all-time list behind
school record holder and NCAA Champion (weight and hammer) Candice Scott who did not throw this day!
| "To put this in proper perspective, Kim's first mark of the season would have easily won last year's NCAA weight throw competition!" -- Karen:) |
Big throws came all around
with both Jukina and Quanda
easily making the NCAA automatic standard.
Yours truly ... Karen :)
.. had a big foul on my first throw, I was throwing for an automatic but I ..
Karen:)
... still ended up with a
PR
anyway...
so it wasn't all bad! The nice thing is that the 'automatics' (Jukina, Quanda
and Kim) and the 'Provisionals' (me
:)
and Andrea Bliss) all get 'NIKE' watches from Florida for the achievement!
Akera Lathan
had a wonderful first meet throw of
54-03
to begin her first collegiate meet, and
Jyn Wynn
threw 58-09
to start of the year with an improved personal best. Scarlett threw well (58-09)
and Sara pulled out a big PR! (50-01.75).
WEIRD STUFF...
I have to say what happened was really weird. There were a lot of gals from
other schools all suited up and seemingly ready to throw, but when it came to
throw... well.. they just watched! Is that weird or what?
Hey, we don't bite...
well... not much! CHOMP!
CHOMP!

The American, State and Clemson flag provide a cool backdrop to a great meet! |
I really liked this picture of Jukina... I think I'll make a copy of it for her boyfriend... who's her boyfriend? I am not telling! ha! :) |
Here's
how my good friends
at GATORZONE
reported the first day of the meet:
|
Junior Kim Barrett led the Gators as the top with the top collegiate throw of 22-26/73-0.5, the second best throw in school history. Seniors Jukina Dickerson and LaQuanda Cotton also earned automatic qualifying marks of 20.43/67-0.5 and 20.08/65-10 to finish second and third, respectively. Junior Karen Freberg earned a provisional qualifying mark of 18.99/62-3.75. Sophomore Rachel Longfors finished sixth with a throw of 18.26/59-11, Jennifer Wynn was 17.94/58-10.25 to finish seventh and Scarlett Ekeroma was eighth with a throw of 17.91/58-09.25. Akera Lathan rounded out Florida's finishers in 10th place with a throw of 16.53/54-2.75 ... ... Florida's Andrea Bliss ran the fastest time in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, advancing to tomorrow's final with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.34.
