One of the fun things about working out in the student recreation center is the fact that so many Florida students really don't see athletes training. They really don't know how strong athletes need to be to succeed. Consequently they are easily impressed. When I lift there is usually a small crowd that wants to see this 'girl' lift. At first, they are shocked then they start hitting themselves for having too low personal standards. I have seen a lot of the guys improve this year trying to keep up with this 'girl'.! I have been asked a lot about my
diet, because I really don't look much like the person I was earlier this
year. I've run into a few throwers who are amazed that my strength is so
high, but they don't want to pay the price to lose weight, even if it
would help them throw farther. |
So the question you might be asking is, am I doing anything different? Well, for Christmas, I was given a pedometer (the one I was given came from L.L.Bean on-line). It measures my walking , my running ,takes my pulse, everything! I log the number of miles I walk each and every day as well as the ones I run and it gives me an idea of how much of a workload I have. I was shocked to see some pretty big numbers one Saturday until I realized how many times I had walked to stores and around campus! So getting a handle on how much you walk is also important.

My diet is still very Spartan. No real fat to speak of and a whole lot of vegetables! Veggies really help to fill up my tummy and the sour dough bread that they have recently introduced to our part of Florida is a great low-fat snack! In addition, I now can buy 'Fiji Water' locally! Hooray!
So running, lifting, throwing and dieting are the big players in my diet!
