It doesn't get any more exciting than this! Three former NCAA shot put champions fighting it out and one 'bridesmaid' definitely trying to make it HER day!
I have known Jill for many years as one of the toughest competitors there is. I knew that she would give it all she had to make this meet her best and a capstone to her senior season!
However, you don't turn your back on Becky or Laura until all the shots have been fired! They have a way of snatching your gold medal away faster than you can say 'second place!'

Hannes Hopley
from SMU was this year's 4th place finisher... and he was the happiest of all!

A lot of seniors were battling it out for the Gold, but the answer was pretty much as it always has been--Carl Myerscough!
The biggest surprise to those outside of the SEC, was the reemergence of Jeff Chakouian on the top honors scene! Jeff popped a big one over 65 feet to capture the Bronze!
Hannes Hopley isn't one of the tallest men you seen on the field, but he throws with a lot of heart and that's important. Hannes seemed more pleased with his 4th place shot medal than his Gold Discus award! I think Hannes was playing for the honor of SMU which is closing it's men's track program this year. Having been a former teammate of Hannes', I think this is how he feels.
