Here's Dad and his old UCLA teammate and now UCLA Coach Tony Veney. You can tell Coach Veney is not too happy seeing Dad with his 'new uniform':) There was a lot of good natured teasing as dad seemed to deliberately mistake him for every very large African-American athlete of their era. This was troubling to Coach Veney as he was an 800 runner! :) I am proud dad came as a Trojan!

QUESTION: When is a life time pass NOT a life time pass? ANSWER: When it is a UCLA lifetime pass! Dad came up to the ticket counter and they told him his solid silver lifetime pass presented to him in 1974 was 'no good.' It is supposed to let the owner into all track meets for the rest of their lives. This was not good public relations.
Stuck on the Highway We took a charter bus to and from UCLA for the track and field meet. It took us a while to leave UCLA because the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books was being held on campus as well. We got on the bus and were heading back to USC when the unthinkable happened—the bus was overheating and we were stuck on the highway! The air conditioning had to be turned off, and after a long day at the track—you get the picture! :) Luckily—the bus driver got the bus back working and we made it back to USC safe and sound!
