My Collegiate , High and Middle School Athletic Career! Hi! Everyone asks about my life in track and field. What was it like? How did I do? Was it fun? Where did I go? Well, I thought the best thing to do was put all of my newsletters and a few of my pictures, training films and results on one page with links to most of it. My experiences at USC have been wonderful! Here are some of the Highlights: 4th time All-American and this time as a Trojan! Pac 10 Runner-Up NCAA Western Regional's Runner-up PAC 10 Conference Athlete of the Week! Southern California Trojan Record holder 57-7.5 in the shot! Victorious over UCLA! ( 3 PR's!) (1st time in this signature event) Oh Yes... I earned a Masters In Strategic Public Relations!
NCAA Runner-Ups! NCAA Regionals Champions! 3rd in Pac 10 awesome team performances!	No ... UCLA did not like losing in their signature event! oh well -- throw farther!	Thank you, Trojans!
Year of Competition
2005 On my own at Florida	NOTE: I petitioned the NCAA to complete my last year of eligibility at Southern Cal. It was granted and I began to train again in the fall of 2005.
	2005 was a year of transition for me. I wasn't on the Florida track team for reasons that I have explained further on this site and I hold no grudges as the NCAA reinstated my eligibility the following year. However, I did have the opportunity to work on my academic tasks and gained admission to a number of wonderful Masters Programs in Public Relations. I chose to attend the University of Southern California's Annenberg School in Communication. I completed the two year program and gained a Masters degree in Strategic Public Relations. I am now at the University of Tennessee working on my Ph.D..

II Champion in the Shot Put Golden West Champion in the Shot Put Footlocker Outdoor Runner-up in the Shot Put, All-American 2-time Mt Sac Invitational Champion in the Shot Put 2-time LA Invitational Champion in the Shot Put 2000 National Scholastic Indoor Champion in the Shot Put, All-American Seasonal Bests: My PRs are now 50'10.25" in the shot (Northern League Meet on 5/4/00) and 140'0.5" in the discus (Arroyo Grande Dual Meet on 4/13/00). My shot mark ranks #5 on the California All-Time List and #13 on the National All-Time List.

	I set 4 National Federation records in weightlifting as a 15 and a 16 year old. Here's my power lifting page!	California State Shot Put Runner-Up 48-0.25 CIF SS Masters Meet Champion in the Shot PutCIF SS Division II Champion in the Shot PutMt. SAC Invitational Champion in the Invitational Shot Put LA Invitational Champion in the Shot Put ,Runner-up in the Discus Arcadia Invitational 3rd Place in the Invitational Shot Put Named to the 1999 National Track and Field Honor Roll Seasonal Bests: My PR in the shot is 48'5" (3/18/99) and 132' 1" in the discus (5/6/99). #1 Shot mark in the US this year for a High School Sophomore#5 US Shot mark overall for 1999

	What happened to me one fateful March day in 1996 was to change my life forever. I was entered into a County Championship Track & Field meet by my P.E. Teacher Mrs. Schimke. I was fairly reluctant to go to the meet, but my mother was insistent that I honor my pledge to attend. She reminded me of something her father would say to her," there's this little thing called responsibility!" I went but I wasn't happy. I had a few 'lessons' before the meet that I promptly forgot and threw with my left hand. The strange thing was that I won! I threw about 31 feet. They hung a gold medal around my neck and took the picture ( and wrote the inscription) you see on the left and placed the picture in the schools Glass trophy case. It stayed there for months and gave it to me when the year ended! I was hooked!
1995	I have added 1995 not for any track & field reason, but to mention that this was the year I first put up a web site. It was a Val Kilmer fan site and it contained a little bit about my self as well. Over the years there was less and less about poor Val and more and more about Track, Weightlifting and me!
If you are a young athlete working towards a college scholarship or just trying to become a better thrower, I wish you the best of luck on your journey! I hope some of the lessons of my experience will help you become better in all that you do! Karen :)
