Hey Karen, my name is Emily , I found your site online. I'm a

thrower at my high school in Wisconsin, and I'm going into my senior year.

Lately I've found myself visiting your site a lot. I can't believe what

you've accomplished as a thrower! It's seriously awesome and amazing and

honestly I idolize you. I would love to throw in college but the area of

Wisconsin where I live doesn't care about track and field at all. It's

all basketball! basketball!! BASKETBALL!!!!! Anyway! I'm just looking for

some advice from someone who actually cares a lot about the sport. I was just

wondering, what's throwing in college like? is it fun? challenging? and do

you have any advice, like, if I want to throw for a college should I send

the coach information, and do u know if they like that, does it show that

I'm really interested and dedicated to what I'm doing? If so, I would

more than appreciate your advice!!! Congratulations at the Olympic trials!!!

That's really awesome!

Please write me back,

 Emily

KAREN:  thank you Emily for the kind words... my Dad has a lot of your questions answered on his site... so check it out!

(note to readers: I always write a detailed letter back and try my best to answer their questions . Emily's letter was so sweet I had to post it! GOOD LUCK, EMILY!!)

Subject: NCAA Throws CD

 Dear Karen,

I was looking for some video sequences of top throwers on the internet when

I found your ad. I'd be very interested in this CD, but I live in Germany.

Is it possible for me to get this CD despite my living in Germany. I'd

appreciate your help very much.

 Yours faithfully

 Lothar

 Germany

KAREN: No problem... please make copies for other athletes and we'll call it a deal!

I was just wondering if you took more pictures (men and women) than the ones that you had in your K-Mail?? If so, is there somewhere I can go to see them?
Stephen

KAREN: Well, I'll have more helpers at the NCAA's! I was kinda busy at the SEC's. So Look for my NCAA photos!

Thank you for your updates about your family in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I'm on your website for the throws stuff, but I can't help but be humbled by those brave people who are serving our country.  We owe all of them BIG TIME!

Hi Karen,
I am about to begin my first year coaching throwing events at a local high school.  I have always been better at watching than performing.  I have not thrown in over 10 years.  Any suggestions for any good workouts?
Thanks,
Michele

KAREN: Hi Michele, my dad'll pass along my h.s. workout...good luck! :)

Subject: Hi, -about throwing-(you don't know who I am), but I have a question..

> Hi, My name is A----.  I'm a junior in high school in Indiana. We have just recently started conditioning for track season, and this is only

my second year doing track. I read over and looked at your website and you are just awesome!!! There are basically 4 throwers on our girls track team  including myself and we

really have never had a "throwing" coach to tell us what to do for workouts and etc.. We basically just "coached" ourselves last year and learned from what we had been told

to do. Me and one of the other girl throwers only got up to about 30 ft. in the shot put for not having any help. We all think and know we can get better if we follow a

workout routine and I was wondering if you could email me any workouts that you used throughout high school to become a better thrower. I just adore

track and throwing shotput and discus and I would love to become better!! It is one of my dreams to become better and stronger so I can actually get

somewhere with this in College maybe, I know i'm a junior and it is a little late, but I just wondered whenever you have time that you could send me a

workout out for what to do. Right now we started conditioning and we've just been basically doing the bench press, squat machine, stuff like that,

that we feel is working our muscles and stuff. But you definitely seem like the pro and I wish I could get as buff as you! HOLY COW, those pics of you

were incredible girl! That is awesome!! WOW, well if you ever have anytime at all I would be so grateful to hear a response back from you. I

appreciate the help.

>`A----`

KAREN: Don't worry Aleah... I'll give you my old high school workout!

Hi Karen,
My name is L and i have been a thrower for a while now.  I receive your news letter and really enjoy seeing how you girls do.  It's great to see women throwers that enjoy what they are doing.  I was wondering if you could tell me what a typical working would be for your hammer throwers and other things that you do besides lifting that help you throw.

Thanks,
L

KAREN: Consider it done!

Karen:
I happened to stumble onto your website while looking around at
trackshark.com. I would like to congratulate you on an excellent
career and a great web site! Not only are you an outstanding athlete, but you
seem like someone with a great deal of intelligence and personality! In
short, I have quickly become a fan of Florida throwing!
As a young coach who knows less about throwing then any other event, I
have a million questions that I'd like to ask. I know your busy as a
student athlete, so I'll just ask what I feel is most important. I understand
that weight training goes a long way towards throwing success. But what
correlations can be drawn between strength levels and throwing success?
What can YOU and your Flordia teammates do as maxes in some of the
elemental weight excercises? I guesse I am wondering what type of strength it
takes to throw the way you guys do. Thanks so much, and good luck with the
rest
of your season
b

KAREN: Thanks B... I can't share my team mates statistics... but I will let you know about me. :)

Subject: Congrats

Hi Karen.

First off big congrats on the season to date.
I am training up north in Canada (Alberta) and looking to make a transition to a D1 program.I've competed 2 years in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) only Indoors...we don't have an outdoor season...it's too cold in the spring!
I was originally a javelin thrower but an injury to the elbow introduced me to the shot and weight in my first year of university.
my pr's to date are 14.96 in shot and 17.44 in weight. I am with a different coach this year and going through a lot of technical changes so hopefully it will pay off in the summer with some big throws.
Anyhow, regardless..great website and best of luck this season at NCAA's. Great interview on trackshark too.

Yours in throws.
K

KAREN: you are a STAR! I'll write with some ideas.
